Say it ain't so!
But it is...we have joined the ranks of Minute Maid Field, US Cellular Field and PetcoPark. We no longer have a unique local corporate moniker for our ballfield. From 1 January 2004,
the shrine known now as Pacific Bell Park (PacBellPark) or the "big phone" will be known as "SBC Park".
At least Pacific Telephone/Telesis/Bell had some local identity, San Francisco being the home and HQ of Pacific Telephone waaaaay back in the day.
But now this, SBC Park? You can dump that name anywhere in Illnois or Texas or any of the other SBC states and it would be the same thing. Sounds really generic. How are you supposed to know that this is the home of the SF Giants and a local institution?
First the Giants lose the way they did and then now this? Makes you miss Candlestick Park, except our stupidvisors won't call it that, referring to it instead as "the Park at Candlestick Point".
It's the 'Stick, stupidvisors! Even John Madden knows that!

Whoooo Hoooooooo! Wah!
This weekend was the beginning of
Fleet Week, an annual celebration of all things Navy featuring the famous and loud
Blue Angels, much to the chagrin of a lot of the liberals and leftists here in "Baghdad by the Bay". Click
here and scroll down to read pompous liberal whining. Read from the top for a pretty nice article.
Their chagrin because they don't think other people should enjoy the Blue Angels because it offends their sensibilities. It's that "We know what's best for you" crap.
My chagrin because a lot of these people enjoying the aerobatics and noise were probably marching last March against our armed services, supporting Saddam and the fifth-column leftists that come here to march and riot because they can't do that in their own cities...
But never mind the political commentary for now...
I went over with a friend to our other friend's house that has a view of the bay, Alcatraz and Ghiradelli Square. You can see all this from the kitchen window. One of the roommates there had a friend on the roof with his professional grade digicam and snapped these shots. Hella cool! The original pix are about 2.5 MB apiece so I scaled these waaaaay down for faster loading.
This is Fat Albert, the transport plane for the Blue Angels. It's officially a C-130 transport. Everything they need that they can't fit inside an F-18 goes in here. Makes cool low pitched zooooom sounds when it flies by. Fat Albert is flown by Marines to transport Navy personnel, the opposite of what the usual Marine/Navy relationship is, the Navy existing to transport the Marines around (so I've been told by some Marine buddies of mine).
And these are the Blue Angels. They perform
precision flying that boggles the mind. They fly closer to each other than I drive to other cars in traffic! Their window rattling and wall shaking zooom sounds are much louder and higher pitched.
When they fly overhead, you can't help but go "Wah!" or "whoooo hooooo"!
