I think I should move to Japan
Read
this and revel in all of its BS and social engineering.
"you can't drink that beer, you're in a bar you know!"
At least in Japan (and most of Asia), customers and businesses still can make the choice of allowing drinking and smoking in their bars or not...
A non-drinking bar defeats the purpose of its existence, like non-alcoholic vodka.
See?

Hallinan, Liberal Hyprocrite
I know the title above is redundant, but I thought this
story would be of interest.
Two longtime employees of the San Francisco District Attorney's office said Thursday they have been sent home from work and face 30-day suspensions for celebrating the victory of Kamala Harris over their boss Terence Hallinan this week.
...
While noting that both Hazel Autry and Diana Chan, two civil service legal secretaries, are entitled to a hearing next week to see whether a suspension is justified, Smith said other co-workers reported being very upset by the women's remarks and that a history of such intra-office problems dates back for months or years. "We felt there was a need to take immediate action," he concluded.
They were suspended for "creating a hostile work environment".
I'm sure the environment that Hallinan and his cronies created was all warm and fuzzy...
for themselves.
When Hallinan took office, he sacked 18 ADAs on a Friday by leaving pink slips on their desks while they were away from lunch.
ADAs were judged fit to stay with the office using their loyalty to Hallinan as a litmus test or if they fit some Affirmative Action slot. These sacked ADAs didn't fit any of these catagories.
The whole office was a "hostile work environment" unless you were one of Hallinan's cronies. Ask anyone who supported Bill Fazio during his previous runs for DA or Kamala's supporters in the DA's office right now.
I saw some of this
en personam because I was an intern in the DA's office during the first months of the Hallinan regime and you could cut the tension in the office with a butter knife. You could tell who was a Hallinan crony and which DAs were laying low because of the impending bloody purge.
Many colleagues of mine were also witness to this absurdity. It went through the Investigators division as well as the administrative staff. Hallinan purged with the skill of Stalin or Hitler when they took over their respective country's governments...
Kamala will have to purge half of that office because if she keeps any of Hallinan's cronies on board, she will have major problems running that office. The worst part is that Hallinan himself introduced this culture to the office and now his cronies will bitch and moan about "politics in the office" when they owe there positions of power to these very same methods.

Morning in San Francisco
Yes, I've been remiss in my blogging for the entire runoff campaign. There are legitimate reasons for this:
1: Vacation. Click
here if you're truly bored and begin with the November archive.
2: Illness. I've been under the weather. Got a nasty cold that thinks it's the flu.
3: Re-assessment. Re-assessing my job, my life and my general state of mind. It's good to do this every few years.
The title of this post, ahhh yes. This is a direct reference to President Reagan's first campaign where it was "Morning in America" or in non metaphorical terms, a fresh start.
Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris won the runoff election last night (by safe margins) and kept the angry left at bay. It wasn't a total victory like the runoff election was, but it was just enough to keep the left off his back about his legitimacy and also for the left to continue to be a hindrance when Gavin's trying to pass legislation. For example, the bum issue and Care not Cash.
I was a cheerleader and voter in this election, not working for either candidate (mostly because I was out of the country for most of the runoff) but posting signs in my window, attending a few Harris events and writing a (very small) check or two for various events. Gavin and Kamala are now the Mayor and DA-elect(s). Same hope I have for them as I have for the Governor: dun mess it up!
Another reason for my newfound cynicism is because of the actions of some of my fellow Republicans during this campaign which will be addressed in a future post because I'm at work and I can't write about it all right now...
