Canna read the signs?
Today the rag, I mean the Chron ran an
article about the
BART-SFO extension and how it's sooooo confusing for people who don't read signs.
The article has comments from one who had no problem navigating from Caltrain/BART to the airport and a big chunk of the article chronicling another person who got lost on the system despite him not reading the signs and getting on the wrong train. Then at the end, BART gets praised by a French tourist, saying it's worse back home (in France).
Now since we ARE on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, why is the article writer referring back to Europe for comparision? Is it because if we compare the BART solution to other places (such as
here and
here for example), we would see that BART sucks compared to these other places?
A funny way to write a sort of pro-BART story. "Better than France!" At least they know how to build
British designed viaducts...

asian pacific islander DEM caucus
About a year ago, I got into a knock down drag out verbal "discussion" with the full time staffer (who is actually quite charming, politics not withstanding) of the CA Assembly
"API caucus" (please note where it's hosted).
My contention was that the "API caucus" should rename themselves the "API DEM caucus". When asked why, I said that it was pretentious at best to claim that this group represented API interests and issues when membership was restricted to one party (dem) while the API constituency they claim to represent is very diverse and has MANY viewpoints.
The staffer said that if there were more API Republicans elected to the Legislature that then it would become a more revelant issue. Then we went to get something to eat.
Fast forward to today and
this article. Guess what? The new (as of December) Assembly has 4 dem API members and 3 Republican API members. Yet Judy Chu (d-Monterey Park) said in this article that there was "discussion" by the founding members of the caucus in 2001 that ultimately decided to be dem only. Guess what the members were? I'll give you a clue, they're not Republicans!
Then Leland Yee (d-San Francisco) says something about wishing that all APIs were dems (fat chance Leland!) but acknowledges that the API Republicans need to be involved with the caucus and that there will be partisan issues involved but these can be worked out (just like in the community the API dem caucus claims to represent).
Hey Leland! Aren't you the Speaker Pro-Tem? The big cheese in your caucus? I suggest that you swing the big stick and smack Judy Chu into line. Otherwise, this will be yet another embarassement for the supposedly "diverse and inclusive" "API (dem) Caucus"...
